Lulu is synonymous with leggings at this point. And for good reason, they make some of the more consistent tights and leggings on the market. If you’re new to Lululemon, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the options. If you’ve ever wandered into a Lululemon store (or, let’s be honest, fallen into a late-night scrolling session on their site/app), you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Chances are, there’s two names that you’ve seen come up again and again: Align and Wunder Train. They’re two of the best and they both come in a rainbow of colors, and they’re built for completely different purposes.
The Align is your buttery-soft, “I barely feel like I’m wearing anything” option. Perfect for yoga, Pilates, or simply running errands in comfort.
The Wunder Train is your high-compression, sweat-ready workhorse designed to keep up with lifting, HIIT, and sweaty cardio without budging an inch.
I’ve lost track of how many women I’ve heard say, ‘I love my Lulus, but they’re not great for…’ That’s why this comparison exists, to help you skip the trial-and-error and get the right pair from the start.

Performance Summary
- Better for HIIT & Strength Training: The Wunder Train leggings, with their Everlux fabric, are purpose-built for workouts like this. Their higher compression and added support make them ideal for handling intense training sessions, HIIT circuits, or heavy lifting. The high-rise waist keeps you locked in and secure. The Wunder Trains offer better compression and will stay put during intense moves.
- Better for Yoga & Pilates: The Align leggings take the win here. All of the things that make the Wunder Train great for lifting and HIIT hurt them here, they’re just too tight for this type of movement. The Align leggings on the other hand, with their super soft, buttery Nulu fabric that feels nearly weightless and offering a low-compression fit, they’re the perfect pairing for your slower paced, mat-based classes and workouts. They offer unmatched comfort and flexibility.

- Better for Running: The Wunder Trains are your best bet for runs. It doesn’t matter if you’re running on a treadmill to warm up or cool down after your workout, or you’re hitting the pavement or trail for a longer run. The Wunder Train’s moisture-wicking and fast-drying material make these the perfect running leggings. The Aligns just get a little too sticky with sweat, especially if you’re running in warmer environments.
- Better for Daily Wear: As supportive and as locked in as you feel wearing the Wunder Trains, the waistband can dig in and feel restrictive, which makes them uncomfortable for your lazy, lounging days or travel days. Comparatively, the Align’s lightweight and low compression fit make them the perfect pair to throw on for a couch day or a day full of errands.
Takeaways: If you’re looking for a quick recommendation, I’d suggest the Wunder Train leggings if you’re looking for a pair of leggings that can be as active as you are. Otherwise, if you’re looking for a pair of leggings for a slower-paced life full of yoga and coffee dates, the Align leggings are your best bet.

Fit and Sizing Suggestions
About My Size: I’m 5’3”, around 122 lbs, and generally wear a size 4 in Lululemon leggings. That’s the size I went with for both models. Both the Wunder Trains and the Aligns fit true to size for me.
I tested the Aligns in both the 25” and 28” lengths. The 25” length was perfect for me, it hit right above the ankle. The 28” length was just a touch too long and had a bit of bunching around the ankle, not a great fit if you want to pair them with a pair of crew socks. If you’re in-between sizes, size up for a looser, more casual fit, or size down for a more form fitting athletic vibe.

The Wunder Trains I got in a 28” length and they also fit true to size. There was no bunching or extra fabric around the ankle. The waistband is almost too tight and compressive. I almost recommend sizing up regardless, but definitely size up if you’re in-between sizes. Just know that you’ll sacrifice some of the compression if you do.
Construction & Materials
Overall Differences:
- The Aligns are made with Lululemon’s Nulu fabric, it’s buttery-soft and all the right amount of stretchy. The high-rise waistband is wide and soft, and it sits comfortably without digging in even when bending or folding. The compression is light, which is great for lounging, yoga, and errands, but also means you won’t get that locked-in feeling that’s great for higher-impact activities. The trade-off is durability. Nulu is prone to pilling if you’re not careful with washing, or if you use them for high-friction workouts.

- Wunder Trains are built with Everlux fabric, and immediately they feel more structured. The material is thicker, cooler to the touch, and offers much more compression than the Aligns do. This also means that they’re more durable and hold up to repeated washing and abuse without pilling. The high-rise waist is also wide and comes with an inner drawstring (a lifesaver for keeping them in place during intense training). The waistband features a hidden pocket for card or key storage. Unfortunately, it can feel snug and dig in uncomfortably. They don’t quite have the stretch that the Aligns do, but they don’t need to, that’s not what they’re built for. They’re built to be supportive and structured, not flexible and flowy.
Similarities:
- Both core leggings feature a front seam. I know, I get it, it’s infinitely frustrating and I don’t understand it. It’s 2025, we’re sending civilians to space, we have self-driving cars, and yet us ladies are STILL suffering leggings with a front seam. Fortunately for us, they now offer no front seam options, and the stitching is flat and smooth.
Final Thoughts
I know, at first it can be overwhelming, but once you dive in a bit you realize quickly that these leggings aren’t competing in the same lane.
The Align is your comfort-first, light-compression, feel-good legging for low-impact workouts and daily life.
The Wunder Train is your structured, performance-ready legging that thrives in sweaty, high-intensity settings.
Honestly, if your budget allows, having both covers all your bases. One for the “move gently” days, one for the “let’s crush it” days. Otherwise? Grab the pair that more closely fits your lifestyle or fills that gap in your current wardrobe.
