One thing about me- I’m extremely particular about how my clothes fit and feel, especially during workouts. If you’ve read any of my legging reviews, you know I use a very specific checklist to evaluate every piece I wear, and sports bras are no exception.
From true support levels and long-wear comfort, to washability, fit, and overall aesthetics, each bra gets tested through real workouts… not just first impressions.
The Lululemon Energy Bra was my first sports bra from the brand, and I was genuinely curious to see how it would perform across different training styles and daily wear.

Who Should Buy the Lululemon Energy Bra (Medium Support B–D Cups)?
- You Train with Higher Impact (Running, HIIT, Classes): If you want minimal bounce without feeling overly restricted, this bra strikes a solid balance between support and comfort.
- You’re a B–D Cup and Want Proper Coverage: This bra is designed to be filled out- if you’re in this range, you’ll get the structure and support it’s built for.
- You Lift Upper Body Frequently: The secure, no-shift fit is great for movements where you don’t want to constantly adjust between sets.
- You Prefer a More Compressive, Performance Fit: If you like your sports bras to feel locked in and supportive (not light and minimal), this checks that box.
- You Value Durability Over Trendy Design: The Luxtreme fabric holds up extremely well- great for frequent training, repeated washes, and long-term use.
Who Shouldn’t Buy the Lululemon Energy Bra?
- You’re an A or Smaller B Cup: You may notice slight gapping, especially in positions like planks or hinging movements. The non-adjustable straps don’t help dial in the fit.
- You’re a DD+ Cup: You’ll likely be better off with Lululemon’s higher-support B–G cup version for better containment.
- You Primarily Do Low-Impact Workouts: If your training is mostly yoga, Pilates, or studio classes, this may feel like more support than you actually need.
- You Prioritize Aesthetics Over Function: This isn’t the most contouring or flattering bra, IMO it’s built for performance first.
- You Prefer Something More Minimal: The fit is secure and slightly more compressive, which can feel a bit “structured” if you like a softer band or thinner straps and lighter design.
- You’re Shopping on a Budget: This is a premium-priced bra, so it may not be the best pick if you’re looking for something more affordable.
Sizing & Fit
About Me: I am 5’3” ~120 lbs. For form-fitting clothes/athletic wear, I am typically a size small. In bras/tops, I’m usually around a 32/34B or a size small.
I went with a size 8 in the Energy Bra, and overall it fits true to size. The band feels secure without digging in, and the overall fit leans more structured and supportive versus soft or flexible. This isn’t a bra that feels “barely there”- it’s designed to hold you in place.

Since the straps aren’t adjustable, the fit is pretty fixed. The coverage is on the fuller side and feels more performance-driven rather than contouring, so it’s not the most shape-enhancing option, but it is consistent and reliable.
Because this bra is designed for B–D cups, I do notice a bit of extra space at times, especially in hinging positions or during planks. It’s not a deal breaker, but if you’re between sizes or on the lower end of the cup range, that’s something to keep in mind.

Overall, I’d stick with your normal size here unless you prefer a slightly less structured feel. If you are DD+, I would suggest looking into lulu’s higher support, B-G cup option.
Performance Assessment:
Lifting & HIIT: 9.1/10
This bra offers more coverage and support than I typically gravitate toward, but I really enjoyed it for a few upper body days. I experienced no chafing or neck/shoulder discomfort from the straps and felt well supported through bench rows, flys, and pull-ups.

As mentioned earlier, this specific bra is marketed for B-D cups and as someone on the smaller side of a B cup, I do notice some gapping during movements where my torso is more parallel to the floor. In simpler terms, I don’t fully fill this bra out the way it’s likely intended. It’s noticeable at times, but it doesn’t impact the overall stability or support of the bra.
Running: 9.6/10
The Energy Bra was a pleasant surprise when it came to running. Like I said earlier, most of my other sports bra’s offer a bit less coverage and/or support, so feeling this secure during both outdoor runs and treadmill intervals was a game changer.
I often pair it with the Fast & Free Tight for longer runs where I am looking for high support and compression. Lulu’s luxtreme fabric was moisture wicking and soft, and I didn’t experience any rubbing or discomfort on the armpit area or on the band – even during longer sessions.

I am usually hesitant when it comes to cross-back bras- where the straps often sit on me can sometimes cause tension in my traps and neck after extended periods of time, but that was not the case here.
Yoga/Pilates & Low Impact: 8.1/10
In my opinion, this would be a solid option for yoga and Pilates if you have a C–D cup or fuller chest. For me, the slight gapping meant I found myself adjusting or pulling it up during extended plank-based movements or down dogs. I still felt supported overall, and the fabric remained comfortable even in a hot class, which was a definite plus. That said, given my body type, this wouldn’t be my go-to bra for low-impact workouts.
Daily Wear & Comfort: 8.5/10
The Energy Bra is very comfortable overall. The fabric is soft and frictionless, and it provides support without creating uncomfortable tension or tightness in the shoulders or band. That said while it is supportive, it is not lifting, so it’s not my most flattering or aesthetically pleasing sports bra. While it checks all the boxes from a comfort and performance standpoint, I tend to reach for it more for workouts than for everyday wear.
Construction & Materials:
The Energy Bra is made with lululemon’s Luxtreme fabric, which is designed to be sweat-wicking, breathable, and supportive without feeling overly heavy. It has a smooth, low-friction finish that sits comfortably against the skin, and the overall construction feels durable enough to hold up well with frequent wear and washing.
The crossback strap design adds to the overall support, though I did notice in photo’s that the straps can occasionally twist. That said, I didn’t notice or feel the twisting at all during workouts. The straps also sit fairly close under the lats, which didn’t cause any rubbing or irritation for me, but could be something to note if you’re sensitive in that area.

The overall feel is smooth and consistent on the body, with no noticeable seams or pressure points that stood out during testing.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I think the lululemon Energy Bra is a great option for higher-impact workouts, running, and anyone prioritizing comfort and durability over aesthetics. While it does come with the lululemon price tag, it also delivers the quality and longevity the brand is known for- particularly in the fabric and construction.
The Luxtreme material holds up well over time, the support feels secure without creating tension, and while the removable pads do require minor adjusting after washing (as most do), I’ve had no issues with warping. The straps aren’t adjustable, this feature may have helped with any gapping I experience, but regardless, they stayed comfortable and supportive without digging in.
That said, this isn’t the most flattering or style-forward sports bra in my rotation. If you’re someone who values performance, support, and long-term wear, especially for running or high-impact days, this is a solid, dependable choice. If aesthetics or a lower-compression feel are your top priorities, there may be better options for you.
