Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Review | Worth the Price?

Jake Bolyby Jake Boly Updated Nov 25, 2024 Questions or comments?

Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Review

After getting the TT Midweight Tech Hoodie and loving it, I was curious about the Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie.

The Merino Tech Hoodie dropped shortly after the Midweight Tech Hoodie and it has a slightly higher price point and different construction features.

This is far from a cost-efficient hoodie at $128, so I was curious about what was different from this model than its Midweight Tech Hoodie peer.

Is the Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Worth Buying?

There’s no denying that the higher price point for the Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie can be kind of tough to swallow. However, I do think this hoodie has a slight edge over the Midweight Tech option for a few reasons. For starters, it’s a much warmer hoodie, which could be a big selling point for athletes and lifters who want this hoodie for training in colder climates.

In addition, the overall internal wool material is super soft and comfortable, so this is a great lounging hoodie option if you want something comfortable to keep you warm while running errands, relaxing, and going about your day. Lastly, I like the thermoregulation feature of this hoodie and think it’s a viable option for cool-weather workouts when warmth and mobility are key.

Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Pros

I think three key pros come along with the Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie for various athletes and lifters.

  1. Warmth and Comfort
  2. Highly Mobile and Dual Drawstring
  3. Every Session Carry Pocket System

The first positive of this hoodie is the overall warmth. This model’s Italian performance wool is super warm and helps trap heat when you need it, but also thermoregulates fairly well in colder climates. I will say, that if you’re wearing this in warm(ish) settings and only using it to warm up, you’re going to find that this model gets super hot very quickly.

In addition to how warm this hoodie is, it’s also super comfortable. At times, wool hoodies can feel super heavy and make you feel like a baked potato, but this model is light enough to rock at all times and not feel encumbering.

The second aspect that I like about the Merino Tech Hoodie is its mobility and dual drawstring. This model has 6% elastane in it, which gives it a nice level of stretch without overextending and then staying stretched like cheaper hoodies on the market.

The dual drawstring is also a nice perk because it allows you to rock the string externally or tuck it if you’re working out and don’t want it bouncing around. This is a subtle detail that can go a long way if you have a specific use for it.

Similar to the Midweight Tech Hoodie, this model also features Ten Thousand’s Every Session Carry Pocket System. There are two smaller zip pockets on the left and right side on the inside of the front-facing kangaroo pocket, which is great for storing valuables like cards, key fobs, and keys if you’re out on run and hikes and want additional security.

Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Cons

There are two main cons that I could see other athletes and lifters having with the Merino Tech Hoodie and these involve this model’s price and specificity of use.

  1. High Price Point
  2. Gets Hot Fast

The first drawback of the Merino Tech Hoodie is its price point. For $128, this is far from a cost-efficient model. However, in the grand scheme of high-performing hoodies, the price is actually in line with a lot of other brands. Regardless though, if this price is high for you, you can save $20 by looking into the Midweight Tech Hoodie pullover.

Another potential con I could see lifters and athletes having with this model is how hot you can get wearing this in warm settings. For my lifters and athletes who live in climates where it doesn’t get cold, then I think you’d enjoy the Midweight Tech Hoodie better.

Basically, for someone who lives in fairly warm climates and just wants a light hoodie to throw on for general warmth and comfort, this hoodie might be a bit too hot for you. Here’s looking to you Californians and Floridians who like to rock hoodies in 60-70-degree weather.

Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Performance

Overall, the Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie has surprised me in training settings. I wasn’t sure if I would like the slightly warmer build of this model compared to the Midweight Tech Hoodie, but alas, I’ve become a believer.

Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Performance

The first performance aspect that I like about the Merino Tech Hoodie is Italian performance wool. When you hear “wool”, I think it’s normal to have your mind go to a heavy material that is not often associated with training. This model is one of the few exceptions though and the wool build of this hoodie is awesome for warmth and mobile enough for a variety of activities.

The second aspect that I like is the fit and feel. This hoodie hugs the body fairly tight, so it doesn’t have that overly baggy feeling which is huge for those that want to wear this model during cardio-focused sessions and dynamic warm-ups. On top of the fit, the material is also incredibly soft, and even after a few washes stays true to its softness.

The last two aspects that I enjoy about this model are the pocket system and the drawstring. This model features Ten Thousand’s Every Session Carry Pocket System which is great for keeping valuables secure. There have been multiple occasions where I was wearing this hoodie for a jog to my gym and I put my keys and gym card in the zip pocket.

For the athletes who love being able to stick their drawstring inside the hoodie, I think you’ll love this model. Ten Thousand has an inner/outer feature with this hoodie that allows you to string the drawstring in a means of either facing externally or internally.

Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Sizing

For sizing reference, I’m going to provide some of my dimensions below. In this model and the Ten Thousand Midweight Tech Hoodie, I wear a large and it fits pretty true. I like having a little bit of room in my hoodies and don’t like them feeling super tight in the chest and shoulders.

Ten Thousand Merino Tech Hoodie Sizing and Fit Large

  • Shoulders (circumference): 46″
  • Chest: 41″
  • Sleeve: 33″
  • Torso (around the belly button): 32″
  • Torso Height (from hip bone to top of traps): 22″
  • Neck: 16″

Takeaway Thoughts

If you’re in the market for a warmer hoodie that you can wear for training sessions, then I think this model might be worth exploring. It’s decently lightweight despite being wool and it has some cool construction perks to support a variety of athletes’ wants and needs.
