The Reebok HIIT Training Shoe is a model that tends to fly under the radar for a lot of cross-training-focused athletes and lifters.

This shoe features a handful of construction specs that make it a good option for those tackling HIIT workouts, agility training, and class-style workouts. After seeing the unique sock liner that comes with this model, I wanted to know how it performs and fits.

It’s an interesting cross-training shoe with a budget-friendly price, I was optimistic and curious to see how I would like this model, and after multiple workouts and tests — I have a lot of thoughts on this shoe and who it’s best for.

Reebok HIIT TR Summary

The Reebok HIIT TR is made with the HIIT and class-focused individual and athlete in mind. It has a lightweight EVA foam midsole and upper construction which makes it an awesome pick for versatile training where loading super heavy is not necessarily at the forefront of one’s training goals.

I’ve enjoyed the bounciness of this shoe for things like box jumps and skater strides and see them as a great pick for individuals needing a cost-efficient shoe for classes, HIIT workouts, and full-body circuits.

For example, in my workouts where I was doing things like squats, lunges, jump rope, and short interval runs the HIIT TR has felt good. If you train in a similar fashion leading with versatility at the forefront then you’ll feel right at home with this model.

Pros

  • Great budget-friendly price point for individuals that need a shoe for doing a little bit of everything.
  • The medium-density midsole is bouncy and feels good for things like jump rope, box jumps, and single-leg exercises.
  • The upper breathes well and if you're working out in hot climates and classes these should keep your feet cool.

Cons

  • The boot construction is sub-par and can lack structure for lateral training and exercises.
  • This will not be the best shoe for heavy lifting or CrossFit so it will have some limitations in the gym.
  • If you need less arch in your shoes then you may want to pass on this model as well as its midfoot is a little aggressive.

  • HIIT Training
  • Class Workouts
  • Casual Lifting
  • Plyometrics

Reebok HIIT TR Pros

The Reebok HIIT TR has a few unique construction perks that make it a joy to wear in certain performance settings. Below are three of my favorite pros with this model.

  1. Mobile Sock Liner
  2. Breathable Upper
  3. Lightweight Construction

The first characteristic that I like about the HIIT TR is its sock liner. This shoe features a sock liner and separated upper construction that provides it with a unique fit and feel. I personally really liked the sock liner construction and how despite not having a formal tongue, the shoe still felt secure and very mobile.

The second aspect that I like about this model is how breathable the upper is. Since this shoe is designed for HIIT training, it’s important to have an upper that breathes and doesn’t feel super clunky or trapped in a ton of heat.

Testing the Reebok HIIT TR for Versatile Training

I thought the blend between the sock liner and upper construction in this model did a really good job of giving this model a highly breathable feeling. The final pro that comes along with the Reebok HIIT TR is its overall lightweight construction.

I thought Reebok did a good job at blending all of the materials in this model into a nice seamless lightweight build. It makes this shoe a joy to wear for agility training, HIIT workouts, and other versatile training where you want a lightweight shoe to accommodate performance.

Reebok HIIT TR Cons

Despite liking the Reebok HIIT TR as a whole, there are two potential cons I could see others running into with this model.

  1. Long-Term Durability
  2. Sock Liner Comfort

The first con is just the overall durability of this shoe. The upper isn’t constructed with as heavy stitching and material as other cross-training shoes, so long-term durability may be an issue with this model.

Reebok HIIT TR Midsole

However, I think for the price point, the construction is okay and works as a whole, and for many, this likely won’t be the hugest issue as I haven’t run into durability issues yet.

Another potential con is the sock liner construction. If you like having a formal tongue in your training shoe or having material that sits higher on the ankle, then you may find the sock liner to not be the most comfortable. I think this is a con that comes down to personal preference because I like lower-cut shoes, especially for HIIT training.

Reebok HIIT TR Performance

If you can contextualize the construction of this model to your performance needs, then I think this is a good shoe for certain activities. For example, it’s not the best for heavy training, but it wasn’t designed to do that.

Testing the Reebok HIIT TR for Lifting

From a lifting point of view, this model will work for casual and recreational training. If you want to wear this shoe for mostly class workouts and HIIT training, then for lifting here and there it will work. It’s moderately stable for loading up to 365 lbs, but I wouldn’t train much heavier than that in this shoe.

Testing the Reebok HIIT TR for Agility and Plyometrics

The Reebok HIIT TR excels for agility, plyometrics, and HIIT training, which makes sense when you consider its name. I thought the sock liner and lightweight upper worked well for these activities and even in hotter settings, this shoe remains moderately cool and breathable.

Testing the Reebok HIIT TR for HIIT Workouts

Additionally, I thought the EVA midsole did a good job at walking the line between stability and reactivity, so in plyometrics, you get a nice level of support for takeoff and landing. The rigid rubber outsole was another nice addition for multi-traction activities.

Testing the Reebok HIIT TR for Daily Wear and Shorter Runs

On a day-to-day basis, this shoe is okay and will work well as a daily wear shoe. For example, if you’re someone looking for a model to wear out and about and to the gym whenever you feel like training, then I think this model will work. I would recommend being conscious of its long-term durability especially when weathering out the outdoor elements.

For sprints and shorter runs, this model will also get the job done. It has good traction for sprints and its midsole does an okay job at making this model moderately comfortable for shorter runs under two miles.

Construction Details

The Reebok HIIT TR is relatively simple in design, but it does have a few unique construction details that are worth drawing attention to.

  • EVA Foam Midsole
  • Sock Liner Bootie
  • Mesh and Synthetic Upper Construction
  • Performance Split Outsole Construction
  • Slightly Wider Outsole

Wrapping Up

Overall, I like the Reebok HIIT TR for a variety of activities. It’s a good budget-friendly cross-training shoe for tackling HIIT training, class workouts, and recreational lifting.
