Product Summary and Features

The AVANCUS Apex Power 1.5 is a standout choice in the barefoot shoe category, specifically tailored for powerlifting and strength training, thanks to its exceptionally grippy outsole. This model is particularly accommodating for wide feet, with a spacious forefoot and midfoot, and the extended sidewalls offer additional support and stability, essential for heavy lifting. However, those with narrow or low-volume feet might find the fit too loose.

While excellent for strength-focused workouts, the Apex Power 1.5 is not as well-suited for versatile training or daily wear, with the thin mesh tongue potentially causing discomfort until broken in. Overall, it’s an ideal option for powerlifters or anyone seeking a shoe with a strong grip and plenty of room for foot spread.

Lifting Tests

    • Max Squat: 415 lbs. The outsole grips the floor well and they have a “flatter” construction for grounding the feet.
    • Max Deadlift: 555 lbs. The grip is awesome in this model. It’s a great pick for sumo deadlifts, too.
    • Max Lunge: 225 lb walking lunge. The sole flexes relatively well and the toe box is wide for toe splay.
    • Max Leg Press: 590 lbs. This shoe works well on machines and should provide a nice level of grip and feedback.
    • TF2 Lifting Rating: 4.6/5

Versatility Tests

    • HIIT Workouts: Full-body circuits. These can work for HIIT and athletic sessions, but they’re not my favorite barefoot shoe for this style of training.
    • CrossFit WODs: Fran, Cindy, and more. This model can work for CrossFit, but I’d keep an eye on overall durability if you’re using them for high-abrasion WODs.
    • Running Tests: Sprints and 1.5 mile run. For sprints, this shoe can feel a little clunky. For my 1.5 mile runs, I wasn’t a big fan of this model and stopped my running tests short.
    • TF2 Versatility Rating: 4.1/5
